Most signs mounted on the face of a building need a permit, whether they light up or not. We prepare the drawings, apply for you and follow your application until it is approved. A permit takes about 8 weeks, depending on your city.
In Toronto, signs are covered by the City's sign bylaw (Municipal Code Chapter 694), and most storefront and building signs need a sign permit before they go up. We handle Toronto sign permit applications, and permits in Vaughan, Mississauga, Markham and the rest of the GTA too.

We collect your documents and visit the site.
We review the design and prepare the permit drawings.
You approve the final drawings.
We fill in the application and apply for you.
We answer the city's comments and watch the application online.
You get your permit, and your sign can go up.
Each city in Ontario has its own sign rules, and some also ask for stamped engineering drawings. We tell you what your city needs.

| Stage | Time |
|---|---|
| Drawings and documents prepared | About one week once we have your measurements and artwork |
| Toronto review, 3 signs or fewer | 3 business days from a complete file |
| Toronto review, 4 signs or more | 10 business days |
| Mississauga, start to finish | 6 to 8 weeks |
| Answering the city's comments | One to three weeks, depending on what they ask |
| If a variance is needed | Around three months in Toronto |
Toronto's three day target is counted from when your file is complete in their system, not from the day it is sent. Gathering the landlord letter and the structural details is usually what takes the time.
This is the most expensive mistake in the whole process, and it is why we always recommend the permit even when a customer would rather not.
| Amount | What it is |
|---|---|
| $963.71 per sign face | Toronto administrative fee added to your application after a notice of violation |
| $1,545 | Mississauga variance fee if the sign is already up, against $1,262.78 if it is not |
| Removal and reinstall | The city can order the sign taken down, so you pay to remove it and pay again to put it back |
Doing it in order is always cheaper.
Your landlord or property manager usually has to approve your sign too. We give you the sign drawing to show them.
